QA1 Introduces 2.25” Carbon Fiber Driveshafts for Crate Late Models and Dirt Modifieds

January 14, 2016

QA1 is proud to expand its line of award-winning carbon fiber driveshafts to include 2.25” driveshafts, ideal for crate late models and dirt modifieds. Available in all popular lengths with U-joints and an optional slip yoke, these carbon fiber driveshafts are lighter, stronger and safer than steel and aluminum driveshafts.

For maximum rear suspension movement, these crate late model driveshafts and dirt modified driveshafts feature 7075 aluminum tube yokes that are designed to allow high U-joint misalignment angles while still retaining unbelievable strength. QA1 is the only manufacturer that uses 7075 aluminum for the tube yokes, which is much stronger than the industry-standard 6061 yokes. The forged tube yokes are precision CNC machined and are specially developed for QA1’s 11-step bonding procedure. High-strength alloy Spicer Life Series® Universal Joints are used for increased longevity and reliability.

All QA1 driveshafts are specially wound with an exclusive 3M™ Matrix Resin. This 3M™ Matrix Resin was developed specifically for motorsports and utilizes spherical nanoscale silica that provides improved abrasion resistance and longevity, higher compressive strength and minimal moisture absorption for increased torque capacity and longevity. This resin is what gives a QA1 driveshaft its distinctive blue tint.

These 2.25” driveshafts have been track tested by champions like Rodney Sanders, Justin Allgaier and Jacob Poel and have resulted in zero failures and multiple event wins. Every driveshaft undergoes rigorous testing during and after production to ensure consistent quality. A thoroughly engineered surface protection allows them to withstand extreme racing environments, and they are precision balanced for smooth, vibration-free operation, which extends the U-joint life.

Carbon fiber driveshafts also provide dramatic safety benefits. “Most of us have seen the damage that a steel or aluminum driveshaft can do to the cockpit of a racecar,” says Travis Gorsuch, QA1 Director of Advanced Materials. “In the unlikely event of a failure, a carbon fiber driveshaft shreds like a broom, so there is no damage to the racer or other parts of the car. We need to remind ourselves that although we take racing seriously and invest a lot of time and money into it, nothing is more important than our safety.”
