More QA1 Carbon Fiber Driveshafts Certified to SFI Specifications

December 2, 2016

QA1 now offers two more REV™ Series carbon fiber driveshafts that are certified to the SFI 43.1 specification—a 3.2” diameter with 1350 U-joints and a 2.25” diameter with 1310 U-joints. These driveshafts were subjected to various tests to determine that they meet SFI's 43.1 stringent standards for safety and performance.

1350 REV Series Carbon Fiber DriveshaftDriveshafts with 1350 U-joints and certified to this specification are now offered in 3.2” diameter in addition to the previously available 3.7” diameter. This smaller size provides increased clearance for vehicles that need more room in the tunnel or for exhaust systems. In both diameters, these custom driveshafts are designed for vehicles with up to 2000 HP and up to 1500 lb*ft of torque.

To reach these specifications, every part of these driveshafts was designed to optimize strength and performance. Because every vehicle is different based on driveline, power level and other upgrades, QA1 uses an in-house filament winding system to custom wind driveshaft tubes that are application-specific. As it winds, strength and surface protection are built right into the tube with a nanoparticle-infused 3M™ Matrix Resin, which was designed specifically for driveshafts in a racing environment and ensures ultimate torque capacity under the most extreme conditions. The in-house winding also allows QA1 to control the torsional stiffness in each driveshaft. As a result, these new driveshafts achieve more twist and smooth out torque spikes, resulting in increased traction during launch and shift points. Each driveshaft is torsion tested before leaving the facility to ensure the best performance.

2.25

Driveshafts with 1310 U-joints are now offered in a new 2.25" diameter option, in addition to the 3.2" diameter driveshaft. As a testament to the quality of QA1’s engineering and manufacturing, the new 2.25” carbon fiber driveshaft was also tested and certified to the SFI 43.1 specification, proving the strength and durability of QA1 carbon fiber driveshafts. This driveshaft, along with a 3.2” driveshaft with 1310 U-joints, is available for vehicles with up to 750 HP and 500 lb*ft.

QA1’s carbon fiber driveshafts use a high-strength structural adhesive to bond the tube to the CNC machined forged tube yokes with a proprietary 11-step bonding procedure, ensuring a better balance while providing increased assembly strength. Solid Spicer Life Series 1310 and 1350 U-Joints also provide durability and high torque capacity and are maintenance-free. Extensively tested before, during and after production to ensure the highest quality, all QA1 driveshafts are proudly made in-house at QA1’s Lakeville, Minnesota facility. QA1 REV™ Series driveshafts are lighter and stronger than steel, aluminum and other carbon fiber driveshafts. Their strength and weight savings mean extended transmission and differential life, quicker acceleration and more power to the ground. In addition, they provide dramatic safety benefits. Many people have seen the damage that a steel or aluminum driveshaft can do to the cockpit of a racecar. In the unlikely event of a failure, a QA1 carbon fiber driveshaft splinters, so racers don’t have to worry about it coming up through the floor board and seriously hurting them or their car. With this high quality and increased safety, QA1’s REV™ Series carbon fiber driveshafts give racers peace of mind.

Custom REV™ Series carbon fiber driveshafts are available now for a variety of lengths and applications. To inquire about your application, or to get the order process started, visit the How to Order a Custom Driveshaft section on our website.
